If Hunger Were a Body

Certain times a story plays in my mind: that hunger is bad, something to struggle with, an annoyance. Here's another story to consider: what if hunger were a living thing, part of this creation, no less than the trees and grass? What if it were an invitation to delightfulness? If hunger were a body, could you dress it in clothing that fits? Something not too loose, not too tight. Allow it room to move and breathe and dance and laugh. With too many layers on, its beauty cannot show itself as well.

  2. yes - there's a saying I think in French that hunger is the best spice? meaning things will taste even more delicious if hunger sharpens their flavor. For me I sometimes worry if there will be food around when I need it, so eat in advance. Or I worry will there be time alloted to eat? (sometimes in this fast paced culture the time just isn't set aside regularly enough for this) So for me it comes down to a matter of trust -- trusting myself and trusting the universe to provide enough good food, good choices, enough time, and enough patience to sit and eat and enjoy.

  3. Oh, and I tend to worry that whatever delicious treat is available will never be offered to me again. Then when I taste it I don't want the taste to end so I keep eating until I've overdone it. I'm trying to allow myself to feel hungry before I eat, but to eat before I get too hungry.
